No one tells flowers to grow and bloom
or leaves when to turn
No one tells the sun to shine
or how to wax and wane to the moon
No one tells the constellations
where to be in the night sky
or how to shine their light
Not you or not I
Birds sing, ants build, bee’s sting
They are born knowing these abilities
whether sing, sting or wing
We are out of step with nature
with our inner callings
When we listen within
no one needs to tell us anything
The world does not want cleverness
or us to get out of our box
It likes drones living on cell phones
Our world is about buying and sellingconsuming all that we can
Buy this toothpaste or that shampoo
a new desk, that new fan
If you don’t dress a certain way
you don’t fit in
Be competitive, you’ve got to win
Go to church or temple or it’s a sin
Children are many times told what to do
not listened to
They come in with wisdom
of who they are and who they will be
A wish to be heard, to draw, to sing
to spread their wings like a bird
Not to have parents discern
who they will become
If we listen, we’ll hear the wisdom they carry
No need to tell them what to do
and who to marry
As we listen to ourselves
the sound of our soul
to feel and know what is right
tune out the chaos and blastingwhich seems non-stop and everlasting
Break out of your shell and what you are told
Live your life, look in and be bold
Who knows what our future will hold
